Good afternoon ladies and gentleBird!
Thought I’d post a post for mid-week check-in since I know our usual mid-week poster is out frolicking about and taking a bit of a break from over-blogging. Hmm . . . But when you think about it, Wednesday isn’t necessarily mid-week since our last weigh-in was two days ago and the next weigh-in is five days from now. I digress . . .
So, tell me what’s up? What’s shaking? Or not shaking? Shaking can be good (if you’re shakin’ your stuff and exercising) and not good (if it’s those parts of your body that keep shaking after you’ve stopped moving). Are you sticking to the straight and narrow or have you strayed a bit?
Talk to me, people!

Not really. But I have changed gears in my eating.
While Southbeach is great, I’ve abandoned it now in favor of a new way of eating. Essentially I’m doing the whole eat-when-you’re-hungry-stop-when-you’re-full eating plan.
I’m happy with where I’m at with this plan right now. I think Southbeach gave me the good habits to choose (and love) good food over junk, and it propelled me to lose more than 50 pounds. The last 20 pounds have been stubborn, or I guess I should say I’ve been stubborn, and I’ve realized that what I need is to have control and discipline over my intake, not simply making sure I’m eating “on plan,” so to speak.
I’m not going crazy with junk food, though I have had foods this past week I haven’t had in years: mashed potatoes, sweet bread, potato chips, and brownies to name a few. I’ve also had good whole wheat breads, salads, tomatoes, and some fruits. I think I’m balanced. Above all, though, I’ve eaten roughly half of what I normally consume in a week. I went to Chili’s on Thursday night with a friend and I ordered a fajita-for-one. Guess what? I only ate half of it and at the rest for lunch the next day! Normally I would have devoured the entire thing.
So my first week on my new way of eating and I’ve lost three pounds! I haven’t had a weekly three pound loss in a looooooong time. Months probably. While I’m still willing to run back to Phase I of SB if I fall off the wagon, I think this thing is going to work out. I feel free to eat what I want, and with that freedom I realize that I don’t want Twinkies! (At least not yet.)
Like the Old Testament Law, Southbeach was my tutor to bring me to a new way of life.
If you want to learn more about this way of eating, feel free to take part in my wife’s upcoming book discussion.
Good Morning! It’s that time of the week…time to Weigh In!
I think Blest is out of town, so I thought I’d get a post out so that everyone can start weighing in.
Have a great week!
July 20, 2008
I just finished my 3rd day of week 1 and am I huffing and puffing…YES!
I finished with 43 push ups by doing 10+8+8+5+12
I’m doing the 2nd column (6-10 push ups)…that’s where I ended up after my initial test. What column (level) is everyone else working at? Oh and I’m doing the knee push ups. I think I’ll do knee push ups and once I finish this challenge, I’ll do another with regular push ups.
Christy F, how did you finish off the week? Stephine, sounds like you did great your 1st week! Anita, were you able to get your push ups in at karate? Claudia, did you get all your push ups in for the week (with or without Starbucks…sorry, couldn’t resist…I’ve been reading your blog and seeing all the starbucks intake)? Did I miss anyone else?
Have a great week!

I figure Wii bowling ought to help me lose weight.
It’s time to trade in my Gamecube!
July 17, 2008
I think the makers of the Wii need a nice handshake from me.
I LOVE MY NEW WII FIT!
I think that about sums it up for you!
I made this pie last week and have really enjoyed it. Here is a link to the recipe:
(Debs, can you do that thing that you do to make it light up?)
(All fixed, D)
My modifications are as follows:
I did not use a crust. Just sprayed the pie pan and baked the filling.
I used 2 T Splenda and 2 T fructose in place of the sugar.
I used unsweetened coconut
I served it with feresh whipped cream and shaved chocolate on top. It’s also good by itself or with ice cream
I am used to enjoying “less sweet” things, but you may want to add more sweetener. For me, it was perfect.
Enjoy!

I did my push-ups today… Anyone else?

I got nothing, so you’d best all just weigh-in.

7/11:
Breakfast: 2 fried eggs with tomato
Snack: A peach and moz cheese
Lunch: 2 pieces of lasagna (whole wheat) and a salad
Snack: An orange, egg, and sardines
Dinner: Beef tips and rice
Dessert: No sugar added ice cream. This stuff is Bunny Trax by Blue Bunny. It’s the love of my ice cream life. I’ve never tried that mad cow stuff Cristina was talking about, so that might be better, but if it is I don’t see how. This stuff is AWESOME
7/12:
Breakfast: Nothing
Snack: Meat and cheese, strawberries, and a banana
Lunch: A piece of whole wheat lasagna and a fried egg and a boiled egg
Snack: We’ll see …
Dinner: Probably fajitas with one whole wheat tortilla
This week we’ll be starting the one hundred push up challenge.
I posted about this 1 week ago to see if there was any interest and a couple of people responded.
This is who I have as participating. If you’ve decided not to do the challenge after all or if there is someone else that would like to participate, please leave a comment.
Christy F - regular push ups
Stephine - regular push ups
Anita - knee push ups
Claudia - knee push ups
Cristina - knee push ups
Don’t forget to do the initial push ups test. This will determine your level and where to start your challenge. Then we’re ready to start the week with week 1.
Best of luck everyone. I’ll be checking in on you.
